Pensacola Offshore Report December 1, 2000 It seemed that everytime we had a charter lately a blow would roll in and leave us at the dock. TODAY was our day. As you know the Red Snapper are out of season - so we focused on Grouper and Trigger Fish on our 8hr bottom fishing trip. Our first few stops the Snapper were so hot they were taking everything - we just could not get through them. Double hookups - 5-6lb plus provided some great fights, however, no food on the table. |
Finally, on the edge fishing some rocks were able to penetrate the Snapper Bite and get to the hungry trigger fish taking squid on small double hook rigs and 8oz leads. Fishing live bate on circle hooks there was a considerable Grouper bite going - our largest weighing in at 49lbs. Nice fish! We suggest if your fishing - look for something that does not look appealing to the Red Snapper bite, fish small hooks and squid for the Triggers hanging out high on the wreck and put down a couple live pin fish for that nice gouper.
